Hi! I’m Kittems.
I’ve been building the game Skymagi since 2020. It’s a roguelike tactical castle-battler where you lead a cabal of magi and take to the skies!
Skymagi is deep in development, but you can follow this devblog to see its progress from humble beginnings.
Skymagi draws inspiration from tactics and RTS games like FTL, Warcraft III, Divinity/Baldur’s Gate, Arco, and Wildermyth.
It includes mechanics like…
- Tactical castle v. castle combat with offensive fireballs, protective wards, local teleportation, alchemy, and more!
- Land your castle and explore towns, collect quests, and traverse the lands of Corvia in your flying castle.
- Cast environmental spells that flood halls, ignite rooms, or poison corridors.
- Multiple playstyles with mage specializations - pyromancers, necromancers, chronomancers, *-mancers!

A devblog?!
I’ve kept detailed journal entries and records on Skymagi’s development since the beginning. I hadn’t posted the entries anywhere other than a discord I share with friends and with those working on the project with me. My wife said that I should post them publicly, show off the hard work I’ve put into the game and spark interest.
So I decided that to compile all of my notes into this blog over a long weekend and post updates semi-regularly.
I want to capture the life of indie development. The pitfalls, the successes, and hopefully a happy ending.
I hope you stick around and follow Skymagi’s journey.
What happened in 2023!?
From 2022—2023 I struggled with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. The condition made typing (and development) rather difficult.
Thanks to physical therapy, better stress management, and actually taking a break — I’ve fully recovered.
To kick-off my return to game development, I decided to launch this devblog along with 34 posts diving into Skymagi’s history, mechanics implementation, art style pivots, and everything in-between.
If you’re looking for a place to start reading, check out the beginning.
