Now that the mages are done, it’s time to move onto castles and sigils. I decided to start with sigils since buildings seemed more intimidating.
All right, let’s try something magical. My first attempt at Evocation:
And a blue variation:
I decided the fire was a nice touch. I decided to make it red, but I am not sure if I’ll actually want each sigil to have its own unique color. While it is pretty, it might make it difficult to convey status of the sigil and how damaged it is.
For now, I’m keeping it:
I decided to make Abjuration just a variant of this with slightly different shape. Rather than give it a fire, I gave it a shield.
I decided that these floating objects could be used to indicate status, like whether it is active or not. Not sure if I’ll include them, but I did think it looked nice.
Next up, Teleportation sigil.
Courtesy of a discord screenshot. Pixel art has a way of captivating my attention, rarely can I actually keep track of time.
I decided to play around with the Enchanting sigil, which has zero implementation, but I had some interesting ideas for a book that comes to life.
I also realized that the castle will need a portcullis / door that can open and close so that the mages can dock and leave the castle.
It isn’t quite a sigil, but it will function similarly.
And last but not least, the Floatery!
I want the floatery to represent the flying castle, but as a miniature version. I even have an idea for a mechanic where its vertical position matches the actual height of the castle.
All together
While this is a total placeholder castle, I think all the sigils look pretty good together. You’ll also see the cauldron is used for alchemy, and there’s a crystal ball for scrying.
Next up, the castle interior.
